UPDATE: Zihuatanejo airport will offer Covid-19 antigen tests passengers traveling to USA for a fee. See blog post 23 January, 2021 for details.
Well, we knew it was bound to happen… Only weeks after Canada announced that all passengers arriving to Canada would need to provide a negative Covid test result, the USA is now requiring one as well.
HOWEVER, so far the required test to enter the USA only states “a viral test”.
What is certain is that, starting January 26, 2021, that all air passengers (over the age of 2) arriving to the US must have proof of a negative Covid result taken no more than 72 hours before flight departure- or documentation from a physician of having recovered from Covid. Passengers that do not comply will be denied boarding by the airline.
The CDC states that it must be a “viral test (NAAT or antigen test)”, but unlike the Canadian rule- it does not limit the NAAT or antigen testing to PCR or LAMP.
Hopefully, this will be easier on travelers departing from the Zihuatanejo airport with more options available to them than their Canadian neighbors.
We of course will update this blog post as this is clarified, as well as testing locations and costs.
