Overview
Visit the nearby state of Michoacan, home of the P’urhépechan people and their incredible artisan work!
Our first stop will be Uruapan- the avocado capital of the world, where we will be based for the next 4 nights. We will take time to explore the “tianguis artesanal” – Michoacán’s yearly artisan’s market fair and a few points of interest.
Day 2 will be a lot of walking! We will head to Uruapan’s National Park- famous for the many waterfalls, followed by a neighborhood walk and down for lunch with cocineras tradicionales at San Pedro Cultural Center.
On day 3, we will head back out to the plateau to see the Paricutín volcano and surrounding towns.
On day 4, we will head to Paracho, world famous for their guitars. Although all dinners will be on your own, evening activities will depend on what special events are taking place!
The Magical Places You Will Visit:
- Uruapan is a beautiful colonial city, avocado capital of the world and home to oone of the oldest markets in Mexico.
- Paricutín is a relatively young volcano that emerged suddenly in the middle of a field in 1943, destroying everything in the surrounding town.. except for its church!
- Paracho, like the majority of towns in the state of Michoacán, is known for a special craft. Like surrounding towns, their crafts are based with wood, but instead of furniture- their artistry is guitar making!
