Here Comes Navidad: A 3-night Trip to the Christmas Ornament Fair in Tlalpujahua with shopping stops in Morelia and Pátzcuaro!

Experience the magic of Mexico getting ready for Christmas!

Our first stop will be Morelia, where we will make our base. We will take time to explore museums and delight in the lore that permeates the historic center on our first and second day. Then, a full day trip to visit the magical towns of Tlapujahua and El Oro, nestled high in the mountains on the border of the state of Michoacan and the state of Mexico; returning to Morelia by 7:00pm. The next day we will visit the towns of San Nicolas Obispo and Capula. On our last day, we will have a morning workshop with a cocinera tradicionál, and the rest of the afternoon will be free time in Morelia for you to shop, explore…

The Magical Places You Will Visit

  • Morelia: UNESCO world heritage site, picturesque colonial city famous for its pink quarry stone buildings, birthplace of Jose Maria Morelos, revolutionary priest and one of Mexico's leaders of the independence movement.
  • Tlapujahua: Pueblo Mágico, former mining town-turned-artisan town where Santa and his elves have several workshops, working hard at creating their famous hand-blown and hand-decorated glass Christmas ornaments, showcased at their world-famous annual ornament fair.
  • El Oro: Pueblo Mágico, former mining town, once the second richest mine in the world, with amazing opulent 18th & 19th century buildings.
  • San Nicolas Obispo: Surrounded by fields of volcanic rocks, this small town specializes in molcajetes and has the largest molcajete in the world.
  • Capula: Once known for its ceramics, now world-famous for their catrinas and the legendary artist: painter and sculptor Juan Torres who taught local artisans the craft of making them.
