Overview
Mexico City: The Heart of Mexico, our capital- where the ancient world fuses with the colonial and the contemporary in design and cuisine!
Our first stop will be our hotel, right in the heart of the historic center of the city; we will have time to explore the immediate area.
Day 2 will be a lot of walking! We will explore the heart of the historic center.
On day 3, we will continue exploring the historic center, with a focus on music.
On day 4, we will head to the southern part of the city: Coyoacan and Xochimilco.
On day 5, time to explore the historic center on our own, with an early option of a hot air balloon ride over the pyramids of Teotihuacán.
The Magical Places You Will Visit:
- Historic Center: "Centro Histórico de la Ciudad de México" is the heart of the city; 9 square kilometers wide, with wonderful examples of colonial, baroque, neoclassical and art deco styles. The main square "zócalo" is bordered in part by the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Presidential Palace, and a block away from the site of the ancient Aztec capital: tenochtitlán.
- Tenochtitlán: The ancient city of the Aztecs, constructed on an island in the middle of a lake; conquered by Hernán Cortes.
- Coyoacan: A borough south of the historic center, once home to conquistador Hernan Cortes and Malinche, and later Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera
- Xochimilco: Home of the "chinampas"- the floating gardens that still exist in the famous borough in the southern part of the city, complete with colorful boats to glide down the channels. People of all ages come to enjoy the equally peaceful and chaotic atmosphere here. Forgot your picnic food or drinks? Forgot to bring music? Wish you had brought a blanket? No problem, as vendors will float by to offer you all of that, plus more! A truly unique Mexican experience!
- Teotihuacán: This ancient city, built between 1-7 AD, lies 50 km northeast. It is It is famed for the immense plan of the city, its avenues, the Temple of Quetzalcoatl and the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon.
