March 2021 Events: Live & Almost Live Music, Whales, & Pickleball

Spring is almost here! While none of us expected Covid to disappear overnight (although we pray it will!🙏), we also didn’t expect a return to Semáforo Rojo 🚦 for the entire month of February 😔.  But we ARE in México, and Mexicans are known for their resourcefulness. We adapt to the circumstances with a smile and carry on; February’s Paella Fest was a perfect example of that.

Music is in the Airwaves… Although we began March in Semóforo Amarillo with less restrictions, we all know that could change quickly. Between that and the fact that the vast majority of our usual snowbirds and vacationers could not make it here this year, our most famous annual March week-long event the Guitar Festival has adapted to the circumstances; this year, you will be able to donate to and attend any of those events from the comforts of your home! Sadly, the annual Tequila Rock & Blues Explosion concerts have officially been postponed, with no set date.

Thar Still be Whales! If you are one of the lucky ones to be in town, this is your last chance to get on board with a certified whale watching crew! Contact us for reservations! (see contact info below) 🐳 Luckily for all whale lovers near and far, Whales of Guerrero’s annual fundraiser will be a virtual concert with the Grammy winning artists Rodrigo y Gabriela, which includes the world premiere of “Music for the Animals” written and performed by Gabriela herself!!

If you prefer an actual live special event, check out the finale of “Canta Zihua Canta”, Zihuatanejo’s singing contest, (date to be confirmed) at the end of March with the unveiling of the new basketball court/zócalo . While all are truly amazing, we are rooting for Alma Valdovinos! ❤️ If you are lucky to know where the local Guitar Festival participants will be playing, you can pop in to watch. some are advertised, but not all. Think of it as a musical geocaching or a scavenger hunt!

For something more hands-on, there is always 🥒Pickleball and ⚽ Fútbol-Soccer to be found… although technically, fútbol-soccer would be hands-off…😆!

Music is always in the Air… 🎸And of course, there is always live music to be found at night- even if Semáforo Rojo returns to shut everything down at 10pm. It isn’t just the wait staff that rely on your tips; musicians do as well. “Singing for your supper” has never been more accurate than now. May we suggest that you request a song about Zihuatanejo?  After all- who doesn’t love to sing about their hometown?! Along those lines of singing for your supper, Juanito Zihua will be doing an online concert this month as a source of income.
