July 2021 Local Events: Ancient Cuisine, Summer Vacay, Benefit & More Music!

We jump into July, still with a Green Covid Stoplight (see photo further below), albeit with continued precautions with shops and restaurants requiring masks and many still take temperatures. By now, we ALL know to wash our hands frequently, not to sneeze into the open air and cover our mouths when we cough, regardless of Covid, right?! 🙂

While Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is gearing up for Summer Vacationers- both international as well as national- it is also the rainy season, which in June has started out much wetter than we have seen in several years. That being said, always double-check any events before heading out in the rain, as they may be postponed… Or not, as when events are planned here, it is known that rain may enter the picture, and the show probably will still go on!

Special Events:

01 – 12 July, 2021: Temporada de Insectos at Angustina: No, this is not an invitation to get bitten, nor is it a display case of local bugs; it is a Foodie event! Angustina is known for its mezcal tastings as much as it is for its nouvelle Mexican cuisine, adding that gourmet touch to local dishes. Adding a nouvelle touch to ancient Mexican delicacies is right up the alley of local classically-trained chef Felipe Meneses, who has already wowed crowds at Angustina and their amazing special foodie outings: Clandestina. As pre-Hispanic ingredients also include mezcal, Angustina is definitely the place to check out what the Aztecas had on their plates. The special menu is full of protein… but it is not for the faint of heart. The titles in Spanish sound tantalizing, but maybe not for everyone, once you read the translation. That being said, these were and still are delicacies- and indeed, full of good protein, and chef Felipe will amaze you! See a sample menu (menu may change) further below; check their Facebook page for more information. Facebook page: Angustina

03 July, 2021: Serenata Mexicana with Cuban guitarist Josue Tacoronte & Mexican soprano Lili Nogueras, 7:00pm at El Canto de las Sirenas

17 July, 2021: Mexican ranchero group La Dinastia de Tuzantla will perform in Zihuatanejo at Las Salinas (entrance at corner of Cinco de Mayo and Morelos). Get ready to dance! Tickets available at Florería Mary in Zihuatanejo.

18 July, 2021: Concert of Amigos for Bet Shalom- Jose Luis Cobo, Juanito Zihua, Alma Valdovinos & El Triste will perform on Facebook Live for a concert to benefit Bet Shalom, to the gorgeous backdrop of the sunset, from Sunscape Dorado Pacifico. Details on their Facebook page. Facebook page: Bet Shalom
