It has been an interesting start to the official Winter Tourist Season here in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. While the US flights have been slowly but surely arriving as planned, the Canadian flights have not. We were all excited with the arrival of Air Canada… which turned out to be ONLY one flight in November. West Jet continues to accept reservations, but it seems they are not enough reservations to justify flying, they has yet to confirm any flights to ZIH. The waiting game continues…
There is still hope! Many of our Canadian friends have found their way here, whether it be through connections in the USA or Mexico. One will find many a Canuck amigo at Bandido’s or other establishments, catching a hockey game!
Although we are currently under a Yellow Light (see the November Covid blog post for details), annual events such as Christmas Eve and New year’s Eve fireworks in both Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo have been canceled. Many restaurants have chosen to offer a regular menu in lieu of the higher-priced Christmas Eve and/or New Year’s Eve customary dinners to entice more people to come out for the evening. That being said, there will be special dinners to be found, and most of the popular restaurants will be by reservations only. Even under a Yellow Light, all safety precautions will still be in place, which include healthy distancing tables. One thing we do look forward to is the Christmas Star appearing after sunset on December 21! There is a glimmer of hope for a Christmas concert on Playa Palmar- the beach in Ixtapa’s main hotel zone. Details can be found by contacting the restaurant Tanta Vida.
