Spring and Easter are here! While Zihuatanejo focuses more on greeting tourists for Semana Santa- those particular tourists are here to see the beach, not religious activities. Zihuatanejo does dress up for Semana Santa (Holy Week) to greet tourists, and does so very colorfully. In addition, there are many whale sightings all around our lovely town! Artwork, that is!
There should be musical events in the air… But events have once again changed dates and/or gone virtual. The finale of Canta Zihua Canta has been delayed once again; the Blues Explosion concert fundraiser is now virtual. But of course- you can always find musical talent around town!
Some things continue, even as the few snowbirds depart. There is a 4K race that takes place on Easter Sunday!
The past few years, local students have been designing signs around town each Earth Day. While that won’t be happening due to this entire school year having been virtual, you can still see signs from past years all over the Paseo del Pescador/Fisherman’s Walk on the Madera side. Check them out!
Children are always to be celebrated, and it is no surprise that a day is set aside just for them: April 30. Hotels will have special events for their guests.
April 2021 has a short list of special events, but see below for more always special weekly options!
- 04 April: There will be running this year at the Copa Ixtapa 5K! If you can’t join in, show up to support them! Faceboook page
- 18 April: Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion normally has a handful of concerts to raise money for various charities. Due to Covid, they were unable to put on live shows here, but they WILL be doing one online: FestStream 2021 supporting street animal rescue Mexico campaign. Facebook page website
Saturday Eco-Tianguis: This is always a great place to check out! While our local tianguis (market day) is not as big as those in bigger towns and cities, it is still OURS! Everything you find there was made locally, from food to souvenirs.
Pickleball: As it is not a contact sport, it is easily played safely. Contact: Emanuel Pickleball Pickleball Mexico Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo
- Ixtapa: BY RESERVATION ONLY! Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays 4:00pm-6:00pm in Parque de los Amates
- Zihuatanejo: Mondays through Saturdays 8:30am-11:30am Infonavit La Noria
Fútbol-Soccer: Contact us (see contact info below) to hook you up with a local game, or your youngster up with a day/days/week of training!
Music: Music is a big part of our culture, from strolling musicians to scheduled performances in restaurants. We are still waiting to hear about the final for Canta Zihua Canta- but a little birdie told us it w ill not happen until June. Until then, enjoy local artists around town! The show must go on! BUT- please keep in mind that all places must respect the protocols; things may change at a moment’s notice due to Covid regulations and ALL places have limited seating. We suggest contacting the establishment to confirm hours and make reservations (or ask us to help!).
