Travel Tips: Sustainable Travel!

We all want to leave footprints behind, but NOT the kind of footprints that are harmful. Ditching the plastic is better for the environment wherever you are; it is even more so when you are near the ocean. The stories of turtles, dolphins and fish getting caught in plastic things are not made-up stories. But let’s reel this back in to travel tips. How can you help?

Ditch the plastic. Leave the bottled shampoos behind. Although plastic straws and bags have been outlawed here- we still see some in smaller places- although most straws and bags are eco-friendly at this point!

YOU can make a difference. Bring a tote. Bring a refillable bottle to hydrate instead of buying plastic bottles of water.

In Zihuatanejo, there is a Saturday eco-tianguis (market day). You can find all of the above and in turn support local organizations, such as turtle protection and whale research. Local women make soap bars, shampoo bars, natural insect repellent, embroider beautiful work- including shopping totes! Great souvenirs, and everybody wins!
